Liam's wild party night ends in a police interrogation. Hired as an interpreter, Irish teacher JJ helps him out of a jam. Together with Liam's buddy Naoise, the two soon form a rap band that sweeps Belfast but meets with resistance from the police, politicians and paramilitaries. "Kneecap" tells the partly fictional story of the origins of the Irish hip-hop trio of the same name and won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival. An energetic trip full of drugs, sex and hip-hop!

Their unexpected success leads the three boys into the public crossfire: between radio boycotts, brawls and arson attacks, they unexpectedly become the political and rebellious symbol of an entire generation. Director Rich Peppiatt has succeeded in making a film that captures the energy of a youth movement and knows how to bridge the gap between politics and pop culture.
"Kneecap" celebrated its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and won the Audience Award. The film was submitted by Ireland as an entry for the 2025 Academy Awards for Best International Film. The three members of the band Kneecap, Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh (aka Mo Chara), Naoise Ó Caireallain (Móglaí Bap) and J.J. Ó Dochartaigh (DJ Próvaí), play themselves in the film.
