Worlds of sound in the Lower Engadine
The music in the Lower Engadine is characterised by traditional and modern influences. Instruments such as the dulcimer, violin and accordion, which are used at festivals and dances, are typical. Singing is often in the local language, Rumantsch. Contemporary musicians such as Cinzia Regensburger combine this tradition with modern musical styles such as pop and jazz.
Musical personalities
Mi'amia
Mi'amia is a musical duo from the Lower Engadine, consisting of Sidonia Caviezel and Nina Mayer. Both musicians have a classical education and are music teachers and conductors. Their compositions blend traditional Rhaeto-Romanic songs with modern sounds. Their lyrics are written in Vallader and the two voices harmonise impressively. Their song ‘Chara, bella Engiadina’ is a tribute to the Engadin.
Cinzia Regensburger
Cinzia Regensburger is a singer, songwriter, arranger and pianist from Scuol in the Lower Engadine. She composes and sings in Rumantsch and English, and her music combines pop, jazz and swing with elements from the 1920s. In addition to her musical projects, she offers piano and singing lessons and is involved in the musical project ‘Musical a Scuol’, which brings young people to the stage.
SNOOK - Graubünden rap pioneer
The 30-year-old from Engadin is considered a pioneer of multilingual rap in Switzerland and a bridge builder between the different parts of the country. He skilfully uses all four national languages in his songs and SNOOK speaks each of them fluently.
