Sturm und Drang of life and feelings: musical pathos in Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Padre Davide da Bergamo, Reger. The title of the programme goes back to the performance designation that Brahms had originally assigned to the Rhapsody for piano: Molto passionato, ma non troppo allegro.

The term passionato, which is unusual compared to the more common appassionato, refers to the pàthos of Greek origin, to the typical romantic feeling of the storm and stress of life and feelings. The common thread of musical decisions leads, for example, to Beethoven with his SonatePathétique and to Reger with the stormy version of the chorale for organ Wie schön leuchtet uns der Morgenstern, where he represents pàthos through intense harmonies.
