Chamanna Cluozza hut trail

Show all 3 images

The trail leads into the "original cell" of the Swiss National Park, Val Cluozza, which has been protected since 1909. The Chamanna Cluozza is the only hut in the park area where you can spend the night. Here you literally feel at the pulse of nature. A unique experience.

Description
The hike to Chamanna Cluozza is one of the classic tours in the national park. The highlights along the way are the views down into the Cluozza Gorge, chamois, deer, the panorama and, at the end, the Chamanna Cluozza itself. Originally built as a house for the first park ranger, the hut can now accommodate 63 people. Far away from any human influence, an overnight stay in the magnificent accommodation, which is comparable in standard to an SAC hut, is tempting. Be sure to book early (online at www.cluozza.ch)! A hike to Chamanna Cluozza can be combined with an ascent of Piz Quattervals, a tour over the Murtersattel to the Ofenpass road at the Vallun Chafuol/P3 PostBus stop or via Fuorcla Val Sassa into Val Trupchun (see corresponding routes).
Note: Dogs are not permitted in the Swiss National Park, not even on a lead. Further information on this and all the protection regulations can be found at nationalpark.ch/protectionregulations.
Geheimtipp
On hot days, do not choose the midday hours for the ascent. The area around "Il Pra" should be avoided at all costs during thunderstorms.
Sicherheitshinweis
Mountain hike (white-red-white). The well-maintained trail leads through steep valley slopes that require a head for heights.

Directions
From Zernez railroad station (1474 m above sea level) through the village eastwards towards the Ofen Pass and on the covered wooden bridge over the Spöl. From here there are two variants: After a section of tarred road, the western route leads along a dirt track towards the forest, turns sharply to the east and then climbs gradually. The eastern path leads along a cart track through meadows into a larch forest, climbs steeply and finally meets the dirt track described above. From here, head east to the Sarasin Stone, which is located on the edge of the Cluozza Gorge and is dedicated to one of the founding personalities of the Swiss National Park. The path zigzags uphill to Il Pra. There the path branches off to the south. The path runs along the partly steep eastern slope of the Murtaröl mountain ridge through extensive fields of Legföhren. After a small fountain, the path reaches the highest point of the tour, on a green plateau (2100 m above sea level), which offers a beautiful view of the Val Cluozza and the southern slopes of the Terza chain. Chamois, deer and ibex can often be seen there, especially in the evening light. The trail now leads downhill, with some steep sections, and reaches the Ova da Cluozza via the Il Grass meadow. This is crossed on a bridge, after which the path leads uphill again, reaching the Chamanna Cluozza (1882 m a.s.l.) after 80 meters of ascent.
